This expression from Bruichladdich, released under the Port Charlotte name, is as Islay as it gets. The spirit is distilled using barley grown on the Hebridean isle, with Bruichladdich working with seven farming partners to source it. It was aged in ex-American whiskey casks, and 25% of it was finished in Pessac-Léognan wine casks, imparting a smidge of fruit-forward sweetness to the smoky single malt.
Joining the Provenance Coastal Collection from indie bottler Douglas Laing comes this smashing single malt from Caol Ila. Distilled in October 2012, it was filled into a single hogshead, where it slumbered for eight years. In September 2021, the cask was opened, releasing an outturn of 419 bottles of this classically coastal Islay.
Single cask single malt from Islay's cracking Caol Ila Distillery, independently bottled by the ever-wonderful Douglas Laing. It was distilled in 2012 and allowed to age in a refill butt for eight years until 2020, when it was bottled at 46% ABV with an outturn of 797 bottles. This one shows off a great balance of classic Islay smokiness and stewed berry sweetness...
Douglas Laing’s Provenance Single Malts are bottled exactly as the distiller intended – without colouring and without chill filtration, so that the naturally present oils, fats and enzymes in the Whisky are allowed to make their own special contribution to the nose, mouthfeel, palate and finish. This particular expression from the Glenrothes Distillery has spent 10 years maturing in a Refill Hogshead.
An indie Glenrothes, bottled up Douglas Laing for the Provenance series. This one was distilled back in January 2013 and left to age in a sherry puncheon for 7 years, before being bottled in February 2020. 428 bottles were produced, and they all feature a little salmon doing a jump on the label. That's wonderful.
A wonderful sherried Speysider, this single malt was distilled over at Speyburn. In October 2006 it was filled into a single sherry butt, where it rested for over a decade. In February 2019, Douglas Laing decided it was time to bottle the whisky at 12 years old, bottling it up at 46% ABV for the Provenance series.
